Nokia has used the second day of Mobile World Congress to unveil the N86 8MP. The previously teased phone is Nokia’s first dedicated primarily to its camera and the first anywhere to include a variable aperture for its lens, giving it an ability to adapt to light levels like a dedicated camera. It’s also claimed to eliminate other weaknesses of phone-mounted cameras through a fast shutter, Carl Zeiss optics and its namesake 8-megapixel resolution.

The photographic focus is also made apparent in the design, which echoes the dual slider format of phones like the N85 and N96 but puts camera-specific controls in place of music buttons. The N86 8MP also gets a more color-rich, 2.6-inch OLED display and dual LED flashes.
Outside of its core role, the phone carries 8GB of built-in storage for photos and other content, 3G over HSDPA, GPS and Wi-Fi. As with recent phones, the device can sync much of its data with Macs or PCs. Nokia plans to ship the N86 MP in the spring for about 375 Euros ($473) before carrier subsidies but is unlikely to tie to a North American carrier with the initial version: the phone supports these providers for GSM and EDGE data but currently lacks 3G support for the continent.

Looking to start off the annual GSMA World Congress with a big announcement, Nokia presented its two new E-series phones, the E55 and the E75.
The E55 was described by the company as the world’s thinnest smartphone and it is expected to deliver a whole month of standby battery life. It measures 116.5 mm x 48 mm x 9.9 mm (4.6in x 1.9in x .4in) and weighs only 95g (3.4oz). It features quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) support, and also tri-band UMTS (900/1900/2100MHz or 850/1900/2100MHz) support equipped with HSPA in order to ensure high-speed uploads and downloads. It has a built-in GPS receiver and Wi-Fi. Other additions include a 3.2 megapixel EDOF camera with LED flash and a dedicated camera key. It also includes a Sureype keyboard and the release has been scheduled for the summer of 2009 at a price of $339.

The company integrated in the E55 its Share Online app, which can be used to easily upload photos on Web pages such as Flickr.
The N75 is the company’s first mobile device to use Nokia Messaging. It features a standard numeric keypad and also a full QWERTY keyboard placed behind the sliding face. Just as the E55, it is equipped with the company’s new messaging software and it also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and video capture. Nokia’s officials explained that the E75 was inspired by the company’s old 9300 Communicator. The phone can be ordered starting today on Nokia’s official Web site at a price of $352.

Shake SMS is a Nokia application which lets you shake’n'read text messages. It hooks into the phone’s accelerometer and when you receive an SMS, you just shake the phone and it will be displayed.

The major advantage might also be the biggest problem, though: In bypassing the phone lock and navigation, it’s pretty likely that something will go off in your pocket.
Still, the developer, FlipSilent, gets points for innovative UI design. They’re also the folks behind the quite excellent FlipSilent application, which will mute, hangup a call or silence an alarm just by putting the phone face down. FlipSilent is out now, and ShakeSMS is coming soon.

"Private Call&Sms Guard" is a powerful mobile application integrating the main features of several most popular applications. It helps mobile end users to protect private SMS and phone call, It can take control of your Phonecall(blackList Filter, personalized call rejections for each of the members for example reject/reply by SMS and voice, record Phonecall and voice).
Private Call&Sms Guard" can help to manage the SMS&Call log in the mobile phone to make the needed messages visible or invisible in the "Inbox/Sent" of the Nokia "Messaging" application. In this case, when private Sms and Call come, a user can hide the sensitive information even your phone is lost, or the user does not want to share the information with others.
An end user may create his/her "Favourite list" using "Call Manager". Once the "Favourite list" has been set up, in the next start-up of "Call Manager", it will automatically scan all of the existing short messages. If it is to/from the "Favourite list", then messages will be automatically hidden. In addition, it can also automatically hide the short messages from "Favourite list" if it is running. This will eventually protect the user’s privacy since others cannot view the SMS without inputting a correct password. A user can set his/her password in "Active mode"
When an SMS from "Favorite list" comes in, the mobile phone icon on the top-left corner of the screen will keep blinking until the user has entered the "SMS management " / "Phonecall Management" area using "Call Manager". The mobile phone icon has been indicated with a red circle on one of the pictures shown above. Please be noted the mobile phone icon exists on the top-left corner no matter whether" Call manager" is running in foreground or background!

Where to download free Nokia 5800 XpressMusic applications? Nokia India just release six Nokia 5800 applications, these applications does not require any money and it is available to everyone, including those not living in India. Three applications on my radar screen are:
SMS Timer - Scheduling of SMS Birthday wishes or Season’s greetings well in advance.
Smart Guard - Simply hand over your phone to anyone, without worrying about data privacy
WaveSecure (Shareware) - Track the lost/stolen device via Buddy Notification or over the Internet
Download these free and paid Nokia 5800 XpressMusic application from the official website.
WaveSecure is a really unique application for all mobile phone user, it is basically a must have. With WaveSecure, you’ll never have to worry about losing phones again. You can track down the thief and remotely lock and secure your mobile, and disable it in the case of theft or loss.

On the other hand, Nokia Hong Kong offers 15 - 20 free Symbian applications for Nokia 5800, the drawback is the lack of English Translation within the software itself.

Nokia (NOK1V.HE) is seeing a good take-up of its new messaging service, the top cellphone vendor’s latest challenge to Blackberry-maker Research in Motion’s (RIM) dominance in mobile email.
RIM (RIM.TO)(RIMM.O) created the market for corporate mobile email and its dominant position has protected it from Nokia’s attempts to crack the market in recent years.
However, "Clearly, things are heading towards the consumer market and that’s where Nokia has its strength," Tom Furlong, head of Nokia’s messaging services, told this to media.
RIM has lately focused on developing its consumer offering.
Nokia — which controls close to 40 percent of the global cellphone market — last month opened its Ovi email offering, targeting first-time email users, and a messaging service, which enables the user to combine many different emails into a cellphone.
"The service is up, people are utilising it, we are getting good traction and good follow up," Furlong said, adding the company expects to announce its first revenue-sharing agreements with operators for the messaging service within few months.
"With the Nokia messaging service, we are going after consumers, we are not going head-to-head with enterprise e-mail. We are trying to put mobile email to the masses, masses of people around the globe," he said.
IN TUNE WITH BUSINESS SENTIMENT
Nokia dropped development of its own corporate email product last year, choosing to partner with Microsoft (MSFT.O) and IBM (IBM.N) instead while focusing on developing phones for business users to better challenge RIM.
Nokia says the two deals enable it to mobilise close to 90 percent of corporate emails without any extra investment from corporations.
"I think that probably the dominant theme in 2009 in enterprises is going to be — do we have to be spending that much money on that service," Furlong said.
When focusing on partnering with Microsoft and IBM for corporate mobile email, Nokia last year dropped support for the Blackberry email service, but Furlong said Nokia users would in future be able to use the service again.
"We are in the interim period of time when we have dropped support ourselves, and Blackberry is readying support for their service on Nokia devices," head of Nokia’s messaging services says to media.

A new unannounced Nokia smartphone, namely the 5730 XpressMusic, has already made it to the Web, through a lot of photos presenting the device. The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is a candybar mobile phone that seems to include a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that complements the handset’s standard numeric keypad.
The handset comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, autofocus and LED flash and features a 2-inch QVGA display that delivers a 240×320 pixel resolution and offers 16 million colors. The vibrant display changes its layout to landscape as soon as the QWERTY keyboard slides out, and the slider is reported to be able do so with great ease.

On the edge of the phone we can also find a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD memory card slot that seems to support even 32GB cards, as well as a microUSB socket. The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic also comes with a sizable navigation cluster that features medium-sized, yet soft-to-press buttons. Other features of the device include Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, GPS and WiFi for Web surfing.
The handset packs a 1000 mAh Li-Ion battery able to offer up to 270 hours of standby, 26 hours of music, 4.55 hours of talk time, as well as about 150 minutes of video recording and 180 minutes of video playback. No details on the release date or the actual price of the device have been unveiled.

BOLT is a free downloadable browser that offers an uncompromised browsing experience on even lower-end mobile phones. Rather than offering a simplified, mini version of the Internet, BOLT provides users with a fast, efficient, feature-rich way to enjoy full PC-style web pages and rich media applications on all levels of mobile devices. Built on Bitstream’s ThunderHawk browsing technology, BOLT is the result of 5+ years experience developing mobile browsers that optimize usability, speed and performance on resource-constrained systems with limited memory, processing power and screen space.

The Features:
It’s Java ME (J2ME), so it should work on most featurephones. Don’t expect it to work on your iPhone, though.
WebKit based rendering engine
-> Relatively lightweight - 150kb storage, 500kb of RAM required
-> Fast! In BOLT’s words: “Bitstream measured download speeds of 13 popular websites including Amazon.com, CNN.com, ESPN.com and nytimes.com. The second fastest browser averaged download speeds in excess of 18 seconds across all pages. On the same phones, using the same networks, BOLT’s average download speed was under 13 seconds, a full 5.5 seconds faster. “
-> Like Opera Mini (the main J2ME competition), data is passed through a proxy for rendering and compression before being passed to the handset, speeding things up and saving battery life. It’s generally a good thing, though such practices tend to spook most security-minded folk. Pages are compressed at a rate of 23:1
-> RSS reader built in, with automatic feed detection
-> “Split screen browsing” - 2/3 of the screen shows the full page, serving as a mini-map with a highlighting box, while the other 1/3 shows the magnified area.
-> URL auto completion
-> Phone numbers automatically parsed for Click-to-call
-> User interface is currently English only, but the browser can render pages written in any Western-European language.
-> AJAX support, and Flash video support (Sort of - it’ll take FLV files and convert them to the more mobile-friendly 3GP format, streaming that to you.) Note that that’s Flash video, not Flash in its entirety.
